Top Entrance Tests For Engineering And Management Students

India has numerous institutions and universities that are governed by the state, centre and private bodies for a multitude of undergraduate and postgraduate programs and admissions into them call for the students to take the entrance tests that are distinct for each stream/ class or honor of higher education.

These evaluate the capability of the students for entry into engineering, medicine, management, law, finance, arts and design, hospitality, humanities, education, architecture, agriculture, sciences, integrated programs and many other professional courses at the higher education level.

Eligibility to acquire admission into these institutions is based on the performance/ rank/ score obtained in these entrance tests.

Below is a list of top entrance tests for engineering and management students-

Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET)

CUCET Exam 2018-2019 is a single All-India entrance exam conducted across India by the Central University of Rajasthan on behalf of 10 Central Universities for admissions into their UG, PG and Research programs.

The participating universities are Haryana, Jammu, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kashmir, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, South Bihar and Tamil Nadu and Bengaluru Dr. B R Ambedkar School of Economics. Candidates have to apply online.

The CUCET Application Process 2018-2019 starts in February up to March. The exam is usually in the month of April. The eligibility criteria, programs, fees etc, for the various universities, can be obtained in the website.

Osmania University Common Entrance Test (OUCET)

OUCET Exam 2018-2019 is conducted by the Directorate of Admissions, OU, with an objective to centralise the admissions for UG, PG Diploma and 5-year integrated programs offered by Telangana, Mahatma Gandhi and Palamuru Universities.

The date of commencement of online registration and submission of the forms for the exam is April up to May.

The exam is usually in the month of June and the results in July. The eligibility for the courses is different for each course and given in the website. The exam is multiple choice objective type question paper for 100 marks that have to be solved in 1.5hrs.

The dates for 2018 are not announced yet. Based on last year, the tentative dates for OUCET Counselling 2018-2019 will start around the 2nd week of July.

Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE)

OJEE Exam 2018-2019 is a state level entrance test for students who wish to pursue UG, PG and other professional courses from the Universities and institutions in Odisha. The OJEE Admit card 2018-2019 will be issued in the month of April.

The exam is conducted in May and the results declared in June. The exam is conducted in various centres in Odisha. The pattern of the exam is different for the various courses with a different number of questions and time. Candidates who clear the entrance test will have to go through a counseling round in person.

JEE

The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is conducted by the JEE Apex Board for admissions into the IIITs, NITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions etc for their UG engineering programs. JEE (Main)  is also an eligibility test for JEE  (Advanced), which is the entrance test for admission into the UG programs offered by IITs / ISM Dhanbad.

The applications are available online from December 1st. The States of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Nagaland, Odisha and some other institutions, which were admitting students based on the state-level entrance exam, have joined JEE (Main), the admission criteria are notified by the concerned authorities.

The JEE (Main) is in the month of April and the eligibility, cities of examination, age limit, reservation policies can be found in detail on the website. The eligibility for JEE (Main ) is different from JEE (Advanced).

Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (JCECE)

JCECE Exam 2018-2019 is a state level examination conducted by the JCECE Board for admissions into UG engineering, MBBS, Agriculture, Forestry, Homoeopathy, Ayurveda and others in the state of Jharkhand. JCECE Application 2018-2019 are available from March and exam is held in May in many centres in Jharkhand.

Aspirants have to necessarily fulfill the eligibility criteria of educational qualification, state of residence and age limit failing which they will be rejected in the counseling round after the exam results. In the counseling, held in May, the candidates can give their preference college. The admission finally depends on the individual college.

CAT

The Indian Institutes of Management (20) conduct the computer-based Common Entrance Test which is prerequisite for admissions into the postgraduate and fellow programs in the management of the IIMs. Many non-IIM member institutions register with CAT to avail the scores as part of their admission processes for their management programs.

IIMs have no role in the selection of these institutes. CAT registration starts in August until the 3rd week in September. The admit cards can be downloaded in October and the exam held in November, conducted in centres around 140 cities. The candidates can choose their preference exam centre from a  list of centres and results declared in the 1st week of January.

Care needs to be taken during the CAT registration process regarding eligibility, educational qualifications, reservations since no changes are allowed later in the subsequent selection processes of the IIMs.
